A long time

It's been a really long time and I'm sorry.  There are no excuses! Haha.

I got onto the BA Graphic Design course at Falmouth University and loving it, I know it's only twenty minutes away from my parents but I've moved here and I practically feel like I've moved far away (except I have to keep going back home to visit my boyfriend.) Talking of him he got me the best birthday present ever; a graphics tablet.  I don't even use the track pad on my laptop anymore, it's so accurate and brilliant for doing any photoshop or illustrator work!

So here is my first attempt at creating a typeface.  I know its really rough and some of the characters really don't look like they belong but I'm super tired and have no idea how to use illustraor so, against the advice of the online tutorials, I have done a lot of this work in photoshop.  I should be having an introduction to Illustrator next week so hopefully I can start to expand my knowledge.

As you can probably tell it's called opinionated and it's biased on my hand writing when I'm trying to be opinionated and the ink running through the page.  I love the small details that show through when I vectorise it:

Shown in this image here.  The shapes are really organic and free and I love this contradiction of technology and nature. 

Diana +

My final project before ‘the big one’ is nearly finished now, and I’m really loving it.  I got to use my new Diana camera which was AMAZING!!!

I’m really happy with how the photos have turned out so I thought I’d share a few with you.

I also had my assessment which went well so… on to the next project!!

BUsy Busy Busy, Crazy Crazy Crazy!

Finally, after too long, I have managed to get all my work photographed and made up into an online portfolio.  I've also completed the Alice in Notherland posters, started a new project and got a job!
Here is some of my work from the last couple of weeks:

Panto Time!

At the moment I'm helping out with the local pantomime, as a set painter etc.  It's Alice in Nutherland, and really quite funny so far!! I've volunteered to make a poster for it, so have been looking up the original Alice in Wonderland illustrations.  Wow, they are amazing, so simple yet strange.  They tell the story, through all its weirdness and they are all black and white.  So I thought I'd share a few of my favorites:

Look what I found

Looking back over my work from the last year, I came across this little gem.  It was a group project in a day where we had to make a piece in response to a quote from Shakespeare's Hamlet.  This was probably the most fun I have had working with a group of people in a long time!

I'm also reading a really great book at the moment, called 'Just My Type'.  It's described as 'A book about fonts' But it is so much more than that!  It's so readable I can hardly put it down, which is quite odd for me with a non fiction book.

'Broken Heart'

We have had to do a project called "Take one Word" so, naturally I took two.

I've been busy printing and deciding which idea to take forward and I decided to use photoshop, again!
Which is crazy.  So here are my initial pieces.  I don't often use photoshop but am slowly coming to realize how useful and quick it can be.  Especially when so many different compositions are running around in my head!

However I would like to do these by hand as I feel that something is lost in electronically processing the words on top.  I think it detracts from the personal nature of the piece and having your heart broken is a personal experience.

I love it for being able to quickly see how a piece could look though!
